The Rio Concho Manor activity director, Joni Lancaster, and EC-47 History Site Commemorative Partner Program committee chairman and Vietnam War veteran, Tom Nurre, hosted a joint Veterans Day ceremony honoring all military veterans and their families during a 3 pm program. Vietnam War veterans and Rio Concho Manor residents, Bill Price and Tommy Pounds posted the colors. All attendees joined in saying the Pledge of Allegiance and meditated in prayer led by resident Reverend Charles Smith. Vietnam War veteran Doug Hodge, the Rio Concho Manor director, made opening/welcoming remarks and read a special Veterans Day poem followed by the children's choir video singing the Veterans Day song of the same name. Heritage Chapter-FTVA representative, Larry Miller, introduced the commemoration ceremony with a reminder of the origin of the red poppy flower. Miller read the famous Dr. McCrae's poem entitled Flanders Field. Miller then presented the Don Goff Memorial Missing Man Table display followed by a moment of respectful silence. The CPP outreach coordinator, Amado Molina, reviewed the Vietnam War Commemoration objectives and explained the combination and purpose of the Vietnam War and All Other War veteran and deceased veteran surviving spouse certificates and lapel pins. Tricia McGuire and Vivian Keele, assisted by CPP committee partners Larry Miller, JJ Graham (FTVA), Luis Martinez (Howard College), Shannon Sturm (Angelo State University) and Joni Lancaster, presented Certificates of Honor and lapel pins to 26 military veterans of all wars and 19 deceased military veterans surviving spouses. Carl Bradley, our featured CPP photographer, took the photos displayed below. More than 100 residents and guests enjoyed the ceremony and lingered long after to eat the wonderfully decorated cake and share their event emotions.
